What we offer

We offer an Autism Assessment Clinic within the Ballyclare and Ballymoney areas. The assessment clinic is suited to children between 30 months and 16 years of age. Our multidisciplinary team, made up of highly specialist SLTs, Consultant Paediatricians, an OT, and an Educational Psychologist follow the NICE guidelines in Autism Diagnosis. We also liaise with all professionals involved with your child prior to our assessment, and provide you with a detailed report following the assessment process.

Our Mantra is "connection over compliance".

A free initial telephone consultation available to all. This gives you the opportunity to discuss your concerns about your child’s specific speech and language development, as well as to learn more about what we can provide.

At the first appointment the Speech & Language Therapist will carry out a comprehensive assessment. This may take a play based approach and will take approximately an hour depending on the individual needs and age of your child.
Assessments are conducted in a friendly caring fun manner. A sensitive approach is taken with lots of positive reinforcement throughout, ensuring every child / parent feels comfortable and at ease at all times.

We will then devote the necessary time to discuss the findings of the assessment and the most effective course of action. There is no obligation to attend further speech therapy sessions following the assessment.
These sessions generally last for 60 minutes.

Following the initial assessment you may be offered therapy in one of a number of ways:

  • Regular weekly therapy appointments
  • Fortnightly appointments
  • Monthly review appointments
  • A home programme of activities with a review session scheduled for a later date

Treatment sessions can last 30, 45 or 60 minutes - your SLT will recommend the duration based on their assessment of your child. A review appointment will last approximately 60 minutes.

We offer joint Early Intervention Parent Coaching sessions. This programme works over 8 sessions. Six weeks of online parent-only guidance and discussion, followed by a face to face session with our therapist and your child. The final session takes place approximately 4 weeks later and is considered a review of how you are getting on/what progress has been made. Following this session you will be guided as to what is best for your child - further support with the team, or a follow up after another period of time.

These sessions are suited to children between 18 months and 3 years of age. For further information, please contact Fiona.

At Let's Expand Communication we provide specialist input into schools and nurseries. We offer full school input which provides advice on how to improve the communication and speech needs of all children within your school. (Both ELKLAN training and bespoke training).

Our targeted intervention can provide either class based treatment (via specific groups for speech, language or social communication needs) or individual therapies for specific children.

We can also train a member of staff to become a Speech, Interaction and Language Support Assistant within your setting.

The team offer speech and language therapy via teletherapy if preferred by any family seeking support. During teletherapy sessions, online games via evidence-based boom cards resources are used to support any communication delays a child presents with.

Individual Professional/Clinical Supervision is available. The schedule is flexible but 4 – 6 weekly is recommended. The minimum is once every 12 weeks but this should really be combined with other robust types of supervision.

Supervision is around Case-Working (cases and wider issues in clinical work), supervising other colleagues, self development topics like time management/negotiation as well as dealing with difficult people.

For some practitioners at the beginning of their career it may be around developmental/learning support which is the focus of individual supervision. For others it will be a supportive space to discuss the last month and keep being a self-fulfilling professional.

Restorative resilient supervision can also be beneficial when going through a tough time.

We all have different needs in supervision - changing jobs, changing direction in clinical skills or dealing with a difficult working environment. Sometimes it is about a new clinical development or changing the focus of your independent practice.

It will always be your choice what you bring to supervision. There is a contract and a review of the arrangement. Paperwork is usually minimal and is agreed when supervision commences.
